Summary

In this book, Nancy Drew, Bess Marvin, and George Fayne are all best friends. They're 8 years old and they spend time together all the time! In school, they have a project where where they have to write a paper about someone from Illinois. The two other girls write about Abraham Lincoln and Carl Sandburg, but Nancy couldn't decide who she wanted to write about. On their way to Nancy's house from school one day, they found her kitchen being redone, and a brick wall was uncovered. One of the bricks was loose and they found a red diary! They found that it belonged to a girl named Amelia Barton, who was 8 years old in 1943--over fifty years before the girls found the diary. In the diary, Amelia talks about her brat of a brother, Edward, and her two best friends. Her friends had to move away because their fathers were fighting in the war, so they each decided to hide a "hidden treasure".

Nancy, Bess, and George use clues from the diary to find the three hidden treasures, and eventually they find them all! They find a ring, a dog tag, and a brooch. In the end, Nancy's dad also surprises her by inviting Amelia and Edward to their home so Nancy could actually talk with her! After Amelia left, Nancy wrote her report. On Monday she was the first to give her report and her teacher loved it. After Amelia left, Nancy, Bess, and George also decided that they were going to put the treasures back in their spot for other children to find!

Reaction

I thought this was a really fun book. I think a lot of young girls can relate to it because most every little girl has her "best friends" that she spends all her time with! Their adventures are exciting and I think girls who read this would be very intrigued and be excited to find out what happens next!

Recommendations

I would recommend this to girls who are 8 or 9 (give or take a year...) years old. I think they would really be able to relate to the friendship between Nancy, Bess, and George

Problems/Conflicts

I didn't see any problems in this book!
