Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., Thurgood Marshall, and this book: Sojourner Truth. In this book about Sojourner Truth, the author goes through the life of Isabella (Sojourner). It goes through events in her life and explains how she played an important role in American history. Growing up, she was a slave. She was married and had children, and once when she was free her son was sold to a white man. She took this situation to court to try to gain his freedom. Sojourner Truth was the first African American woman to ever win a court case against a white man. In 1843 after she won the case, that is when she changed her name to Sojourner which means "traveler". She went on to speak out against slavery and for equal rights for women. Sojourner truly was a great influence to the American people and helped make a difference.

Reaction

I think this is a great book, because it shows how Sojourner was able to make a difference. I think it's a very inspiring story and it would be great for children to read and learn about her experience. It's also great because the language used is easy for younger children to understand.

Recommendations

I would recommend this to anyone! It's a great learning tool.

Problems/Conflicts

The only problem is that Sojourner was a slave and was treated poorly at times, however this can be turned into a positive because she was able to overcome that and make a difference.
