Summary
This is a very factual book about sea horses. It goes through Five chapters about the sea horses' life. Chapter one is about What a sea horse is--the different sizes it can be, how it swims, how it breathes, etc. Chapter two is about where a sea horse lives--the three different habitats which are sea grass beds, around the roots of mangrove trees, and in coral reefs. This chapter also talks about their living habits and conditions. Sea horses generally stay in one small area and they live alone. Chapter three is about the life of a sea horse--how their day goes. When sea horses are adults they usually form pairs, one boy and one girl, however they don't live together--they just swim with each other each morning, and sometimes they change colors. For the rest of the day, sea horses mostly stay in one place and find food to eat or hide from creatures that might eat them. Chapter four is about how sea horse babies are born and how they grow--the mother first has the eggs inside her body, however she then puts the eggs in the father's "brood pouch" for the eggs to grow. Once a baby sea horse is born, they are completely on their own and are generally fully grown after six months. The last chapter is about the interaction between sea horses and people--how sometimes people can both harm and also protect them.
This book also has a really good layout, and many colorful, bright pictures that make the book fun to read!
